Dick and Norma Strenge Scholarship

The Fairmont Dollars for Scholars chapter is pleased to announce that Ronelva (Roni) and Chuck Dauer, of Fairmont, recently gave the chapter $1,000 to support a scholarship in 2009.  This scholarship, named in memory of Roni’s parents, Dick and Norma Strenge, will be given to a Fairmont High School graduate at the chapter’s annual awards night May 20, 2009.  This is the second year that Roni has supported a scholarship.  In May 2008, she held the winning raffle ticket in the chapter’s “Scholarship In Your Name” contest and named that $1,000 scholarship “The Dick & Norma Strenge Scholarship” in memory of her parents.  Chapter board members will again be selling “Scholarship In Your Name” $5.00 raffle tickets in February 2009.   All proceeds will go towards a scholarship to be awarded in May 2009.

Dick Strenge, after serving in the US Army during WWII, and his wife Norma lived in Good Thunder, MN, where they then owned and operated a bakery for a few years.  They then moved to Cambria, MN, where they farmed for many years until retirement.    Both are now deceased.  The Strenges always encouraged their children to further their education beyond high school.  Their daughters Roni and Verna graduated from Mankato State U. and their son David graduated from Brainerd Technical College.  Roni is currently the director of the Fairmont Community Education & Recreation (CER) program and her husband Chuck is retired from Harsco.  They have three children, Patty, Ben and Andy.

All Fairmont High School graduates are eligible to apply for all of the chapter’s scholarships.  Applications for these scholarships will be available at the Fairmont High School after Christmas break and on the chapter’s website:   fairmontdollarsforscholars.org.  Contact Lorraine Balske at 235-3861 for more information about the chapter.
